Flicking through Reader’s Digest while in a waiting room yesterday, I stumbled on this cool project by French photographer JR: Women Are Heroes. The portraits above are of female victims who’ve lost loved ones through violence. They’ve been plastered across buildings in one of the most violent favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The project is designed to illustrate the women’s courage and pivotal roles in their communities. Below, you’ll see a trailer for the same project in Africa.
