People We Love: William Kamkwamba

Howdy, SuperForest!

After being introduced to him through SuperForester Jackie’s inspiring post last week, it seems like William Kamkwamba has been blazing through the media in an orb of hope and inspiration. Blogs and websites have been buzzing, he appeared on the Daily Show a few weeks ago, and I just listened to his interview on NPR. Being so, I felt a follow-up post was needed to celebrate the wild achievements of this young man.

For those of you who don’t know the story, William Kamkwamba was 14 years old and had recently dropped out of school when he went to a library and was studying some books. He soon gained inspiration to build his own electricity-generating windmill out of scrap materials and the rest, as they say, is history.
