Hey SuperForest.
I’m going to keep this REAL short and to the point. This post is just to express my shock. Since choosing to stick with a vegetarian diet last August, my cholesterol has dropped 83 points. A year ago it was 190 (quite high for a fifteen year old, certainly stemming from my terrible fast-food diet at the time). Now it’s at at the very healthy level of 107.

Who would’ve thought, a vegetarian diet could be healthy for your body (not to mention our planet Earth, considering the staggering statistics concerning our meat situation)! Entire forests are clear cut for grazing pastures, tons of arable land is instead used for livestock, and let us not forget the massive amounts of pesticides used to treat the food they eat (which would be better suited for human consumption anyway) that end up running into the deltas and rivers, endangering sea life and decimating wetland vegetation. Not to mention the sheer amount of methane, a greenhouse gas 20-25 times as potent as carbon dioxide, that comes from both ends of the livestock we breed and slaughter.
If you think the methane isn’t that big of a problem, remember that there are around 1.3 billion cows on the planet. I’m not advocating everyone who reads this to switch to a vegetarian diet (well, maybe a little…). Rather, I’m suggesting that instead of the steak dinner tonight, consider eating a delicious vegetarian meal. I did… and I haven’t looked back since.
So much for keeping it brief and easy on the preachiness index! I really hope I didn’t take any of you by surprise. I hope that this information finds you well. There’s only so much you can do to combat environmental problems. Recycling, buying local and organic food, and driving a hybrid are all great and useful actions. But the world’s current addiction to meat, to the point that we’ve created factory farms to make slaughter as quick and profitable as possible, is too large to ignore.
And don’t forget the inherent health benefits! If you’re not sure a vegetarian diet is for you just try it for a week or two, and be excited about it. You’re trying something new, experiencing something different. You owe it to your body and spirit to try it. Odds are you won’t be disappointed. It’s a great excuse to try all the exotic sounding foods you’ve never eaten before.
Anywho, I hope you’ve had a great week and a great day.
I wish you luck in your dietary journey!
Love,
Chris
