You’re walking down the streets of NYC, minding your own business and suddenly, BAM! One of these babies crosses your path:
What is this little bundle of super cute cardboard you may ask? A tweenbot!
Tweenbots are human-dependent robots that navigate the city with the help of pedestrians they encounter. Rolling at a constant speed, in a straight line, Tweenbots have a destination displayed on a flag, and rely on people they meet to read this flag and to aim them in the right direction to reach their goal.
Described as a “a smiling 10-inch tall cardboard missionary”, the purpose of the Tweenbot was to see if a “human-like” object could travel along the streets beside us and record our willingness to interact with it.
Creator Kacie Kinzer says that “the results were unexpected”. Each time a tweenbot was sent out, the vulnerable cardboard robot would–with the help of pedestrians–reach its goal. One man even talked to the robot out loud when it was headed in the wrong direction telling it: “You can’t go that way, it’s toward the road.” What amazing teamwork! Check out this vid of the Tweenbot in action:
I think this works as a symbol of the willingness of people to help one another. So lets all aim to treat one another like Tweenbots!
I dont recommend, however, that you try to pick people up and turn them in the right direction if they seem lost…unless they have a help me flag sticking out of them of course!
Have a wonderful Monday my awesome party people,
