The Clash – Complete Control & Safe European Home

God, I love Joe Strummer. And Mick Jones. And Topper Headon. And most definitely Paul Simonon… I guess I’m trying to say that I really love the Clash.

Jimmy Guterman’s: The Sandinista Project! Free Download UNTIL TONIGHT! 36 Artists Cover the Clash’s Amazing Album!

One of my favorite albums by one of my favorite bands, covered by 36 amazing artists, and available for free download (including packaging and liner notes!) until midnight tonight, all courtesy of Mr. Jimmy Guterman and his generous heart.

The Sandinista Project didn’t set any sales records. Indeed, the number of copies distributed by unauthorized file-sharing sites was greater than the number we sold. We didn’t undertake the project to make ourselves any money (it was a charity record) so I didn’t mind that it was available everywhere for free. That’s the record biz nowadays. But it did bother me that so many of the versions available on torrenting sites (yes, I downloaded a few; depressing research) sounded like crap. They were encoded at low bit rates and sample rates, sometimes there were digital skips, and there was never any packaging. Guys, if you’re going to steal from us, at least make us look and sound good. Please.”

Mr. Jimmy Guterman, you rule. You know this, right? You totally, utterly rule and you’ve made my day. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generousity of spirit and for sharing this with the world.

Clash Win! Sandinista Win! Jimmy Guterman Win!

Thank you to lovely, wonderful boingboing for the tip.

Space Invader: Rubikcubism!

Sometimes you watch a video online and have a sudden urge to share it with as many people as humanly possible because of its blinding awesomeness. In this case, I was sold within the opening seconds…Rubik’s Cubes and The Beatles’ “Come Together”?! What a blazin’ combination!

Parisian artist “Space Invader” is the creator of this amazing video. What a talent! Personally, I’m plenty pleased to be able to make a Rubik’s Cube have solid colors on each side. Simply thinking about creating pixel artwork with those little things is enough to make my head spin.

See more of Space Invader’s crazy cool artwork by checking out his website.

And if you really love this man’s work, head on over to New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery between June 27 and July 25 to see an exhibition of his work!

(Love to my modern met for sharing)
