“Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love” which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.”
-St. Augustine
Today is Valentine’s Day. And so I thought it appropriate to share two of my favorite definitions of the power and glory that is LOVE. One is the quote above by the wise and reverent St. Augustine. The other is a musical manifestation of all the sweeping major and minor melodic shifts that encompass the sensations of love at its most pure and divine. Alice Coltrane’s rendition of her husband John Coltrane’s masterpiece — A Love Supreme.
However you define love, in whatever colors or shades it reveals itself to you, let today be an extra special day of positivity and light. Not just because it’s Valentine’s Day, but because Love is a commodity that is always in high demand.
So be a producer of joy and a supplier of love. And of course, stay sexy superforesters!
Big kisses,
Aaron
