Goooood Morning SuperForest,

I am going to be devoting more and more of my time to getting the SuperForest Seedlings School up and running, and so to ensure that the lovely SuperForest blog (the very one you’re reading now!) does not get overlooked, I have asked the incredi-capable SuperForester Carla if she would step in and take the reigns as Editor-In-Chief.

As any of us who have read her posts know, Miss Carla is a bright, shining, sustainability star. I’m sure that in her capable hands SuperForest will continue to grow and improve and involve more fine folks around the world.

Congratulations to SuperForester Carla! And a massive “Thank you!”

Love to All,

Jackson

Goooooood Morning Superforest!

My posting has slowed down a great deal, as Bee Ladd and I are very hard at work on SuperForest Seedlings: Special Ed Eco-tech Development, in addition to creating a rad little outline for Season 2 of the 4Fives.

So, forgive the less frequent posts, rest assured that behind the scenes there is much good stuff a brewin’.

SuperForester Jackie Arrives!

The Amazacrazy SuperForester Jackie Lam is now all up in the SuperForest NYC headquarters (aka, my apartment.) Jackie is here studying Psychology and has graciously agreed to come over and work on SuperForest while Bee and I plan and plot! Mwah Ha Ha! So thank you to Jackie! Welcome to the fun times!

Jackie and Bee and I just went for a walk, and outside of a school on 19th St. there was a big dumpster filled with rad things. Projectors, desks, shelves, furniture, all going to the trash heap. We rescued a nice clean dry-erase board and some sweet 1960′s science posters. Here’s one of the funnier ones:

Sciencey!

SuperForester Will, (my beloved brother,) sent in a picture of the Jackstrap that he’d made:

wigglestrap1Handsome, ain’t he?

You too can make your very own Jackstrap! It is wicked easy, takes very little time, and finally solves the age-old “man-bag dilemma”. At last…

There’s a ton going on and I’m sorry to keep this brief. More good news to come!

Love,

Jackson

Gooood Moring SuperForest!

SuperForester Bee Ladd and I have been in upstate New York for the past four days working on developing the SuperForest Seedlings program. We have wonderful plans! Great, big, shiny plans.

We are dreamers, yes, but the internet has made me aware of just how many of our fellow dreamers there are out there.

The big nasty nouns that we must overcome: Racism, War, Hatred, Them/Other/Enemy… are quickly finding themselves de-fanged by the experiences of regular folks happily linked together all over the world.

We’ve created a huge web of mutual enthusiasm, where good ideas win, and sharing ideas makes them even stronger.

The challenges we face as a species are now being discussed, written down, plans are being made, partnerships are forming, technologies being developed. New friendships are being made, as friendship and the sharing of information that accompany friendships, are the new currency in World 2.0.

Everywhere I go, everyone I meet seems to be involved in dreaming a wonderful dream. Everyone is leaping for the big golden ring. No one seems certain of anything save the need to have fun and be satisfied with each day you spend above ground.

It is a thrilling and wonderful time.

A wave is cresting, my friends. A giant and wonderful wave. Those that can swim will swim, those that can dive will dive, and those that saw the wave coming will be able to paddle, gain speed as the wave begins to break, and then stand up on the planks and foam of sustainability and surf this wave of progress as it replaces all outdated ideas with new ones.

We hope that you will join us at SuperForest in surfing this giant wave. If we position ourselves correctly, and are moving at just the right speed, we can all surf this monster together, and what a thrilling ride that will be.

I am thrilled at the thought.

Happy Holiday Weekend!

Love to All SuperForesters everywhere.

Jackson’s Journal (6/22/09) – Our Very First Press Release!

untitled-28m-02s

Duuuudes,

It is a good day in the SuperForest, for each and every SuperForester.

I have watched from the very beginning as this little blog grew into a scrappy sapling, and it’s growth has thrilled me! The latest work with the 4fives has been the icing on the cake. The absolute best. The easiest and most fun I’ve ever had, and deciding to commit to these kids was the easiest decision I ever made.

Our work with the 4fives blogging has brought SuperForest full circle to exactly where it started out: As a catalogue of wonderful and inspiring things, to help children of all ages play in peace, share their ideas and skills, and learn to love the natural world.

The 4fives and SuperForest are announcing a joint venture: The creation of the SuperForest Seedlings Program.

And this weekend, the miraculous Bee Ladd and I wrote our first press release to announce it!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAMER GRAHAM NASH GIVES PRIVATE PERFORMANCE TO THE 4FIVES, BROOKLYN’S FIRST POSITIVITY BLOGGING TEAM

Brooklyn, NY June 22, 2009—Singer and songwriter Graham Nash paid a surprise visit to PS 58 in Carroll Gardens today to serenade a special group of children and a few lucky teachers.  The Woodstock rocker came to pay homage to Brooklyn’s first positivity blogging team, the 4Fives. Positivity blogging is a new internet trend, where every post, every word, and every idea on one’s site is positive. With an emphasis on good manners and generosity, positivity blogging makes it easy for students to connect with other student bloggers, and the more people happily sharing the things they love and linking together, the greater the strength and flexibility of the network. Co-founded by NYC educator Bee Ladd and Enviro-blogger Jackson Nash, founder of SuperForest.org, the 4Fives blogging experiment is a pilot program for their education initiative, the SuperForest Seedlings. SuperForest Seedlings is a teaching curriculum for the post-racial, class-blind, internet age.  It is a training course in flexible thinking, focused curiosity, and hands-on technology exploration, with a focus on having fun.

Graham Nash, a humanitarian as well as a musician, was inspired by the changes that Bee Ladd and Jackson Nash are making in students’ lives through this education initiative.  The initiative teaches media production, video editing, and blogging- in addition to bringing leaders from various fields into the classrooms.  As a result, participating students come to school each day excited to learn, and have made measurable gains across the curriculum.  “Our favorite days at school are the ones where we are blogging, and luckily for us, that’s every day!” stated 4Fiver Brandon Dumas.

Said rocker Nash: “I was completely blown away by these kids. Their energy, their presence, their commitment to peace and their excitement and curiosity I found totally inspiring. They make me want to work on my blog. The best part was that after we all said goodbye, they thanked me in Dutch, as they’d learned it from a visiting Dutch blogger!”

For additional information that is covered in this news release, contact Jackson Nash.

About SuperForest Seedlings:

SuperForest Seedlings is a progressive initiative aimed at transforming public education by helping inner-city students realize their potential through positivity blogging. Co-Founders Bee Ladd and Jackson Nash designed this innovative curriculum to spark creativity and passion in students, and to get them excited about learning.  SuperForest Seedling’s mission is to show children how to be successful citizens of  “world 2.0”, a generation that actively works to defuse the effects of racism, homophobia, environmental degradation, and an us vs. them mentality by incorporating cutting-edge technology across the curriculum and throughout their personal lives.
