SuperForester Jenni Presents: “How I Am Living SuperForest”

Heyo, SuperForest!

The “SuperForest Challenge” celebrations go on as we continue to share the winning submissions with you! A few days ago, we shared SuperForester Mickie’s awe-inspiring piece of writing describing her “SuperForest Life”, here is what the second winner, the fabulous SuperForester Jenni, had to say in response to our challenge question:

I once encountered a man who didn’t believe in random acts of kindness. He told me that acts of kindness should be consistent instead. I really took his sentiment to heart. Being a part of the SuperForest community has helped me to promote that idea and send positive energy out into the world. I am not perfect and I do not always succeed but each new day is an opportunity to try and make a difference in the life of another, weather they be human, animal or plant. As an environmentally and socially conscious vegan this can be challenging. My beliefs are not always accepted or encouraged by people but by working through the challenges of life I learn more about acceptance and empathy towards others.

At the end of last year I started a self-discovery project. I created a personal manifesto (a public statement of beliefs and values). I think this effort is totally SuperForesty, not only because of my written personal beliefs (like recycling and reducing waste) but also because of the act of exploring one’s self. You must first love yourself before you can love others and knowing who you are is a big part of that.

Even little things like noticing the beauty in ordinary people and places are manifestations of SuperForest. Just today I saw a young man on the bus holding a note. It was a set of handwritten directions detailing how to get home from school, neatly printed and highlighted. It amazed me how this scrap of paper could radiate love and care.

Each day that I leave home with a smile and a hope for the future is an example of living out SuperForest. The real reward though is spreading that smile and hope to others.

Amazing. Again, a big thank you and congratulations go out to Jenni for this fine example of the simplistic nature in which we can improve our every day experiences. You can keep up with more of her thoughts and wisdom by reading her fresh blog, “I’m on an Adventure“!

Love!

SuperForester Jon Presents: “The Birth Of A Cultural Icon” & T-Shirt Release Party!!!

Hello-ha!
That’s Hello and Aloha combined.

It’s fun to say.

Try it. Say it. Spread it, and together we will bridge the vocabular gap between wherever you are and Hawaii.

My name is Jon Marro! AKA  SuperForester Jon! I am the creative genius behind Blend Apparel.

I met Jackson on a plane to Hawaii. I liked him instantly.

We were attending a retreat on a biodynamic, solar/wind powered farm in rural Maui. Totally SuperForest.

Every morning we’d wake up to roosters. The real kind. Like the kind on the Corn Flakes box. With those crazy arching back feathers that jet skiers dub rooster tailing. I had encountered other roosters before, but honestly, to me they looked just like chickens, but with a red amoeba slab of skin on their heads. These Maui roosters had those too, and they tower over their hen counterpart. Like a matador bull to a milking cow. These were the Gold’s Gym of roosters.

Then Jackson and I would start the wood-fire sauna. We were an impressive team Jackson and I. The first morning, post-sauna, pre-breakfast, he and I went down to the ocean, held hands and ran in naked together.

I tell you this, simply because Jackson and I met for the first time as 31 3 year olds. Our friendship was birthed in arguably the most fertile fecund place on earth. Everything is larger and more saturated there. I think it’s where color was invented. The plants look like they’re from the Triassic Period and I think I saw a hobbit riding a dragonfly. Everything grows, and grows BIG. So, Hawaii was the perfect place for our friendship to germinate.

Because Jackson and I are up to BIG things.

Here we are talking about some:

I think I can. I think Icon.

I’m not sure what we’re talking about. Perhaps the film I’m writing, or the planetary corruption he’s ending. But it’s BIG, and just like the adage goes: “Misery loves company…and so does BIGNESS.”

Being the community builders we are we decided to join forces. We entered a sacred pact. An agreement signed in smiles. To both (help each other) become Cultural Icons.
He told me he had a righteous Blog, I told him I had a transformational T-Shirt company, and like Doc Brown at the end of Back To The Future, we connected the cords in the nick of time to bring you this! (Our first ever collaboration!)

I think SuperForesters are probably the coolest activists ever. I am so excited to share myself with you. One of the things I take on daily in my life is being a walking mirror. Asking the world “Can you see yourself in me?” Ultimately that’s all any of the art I ever make is asking. “Can this help us relate?”

So this post, my first of what I know will be many, is kinda a T-Shirt Release party! My T-shirt company Blend Apparel, just released 3 new designs and we wanted to cyber-celebrate. The first one is called eLOVEator (pronounce elevator with an emphasis on the LOVE). It’s all about moving from your head to your heart. We have a guys and girls version, but don’t let that stop you. And the other design is called: Transceiver. Consider that you are you’re own radio station. What are you broadcasting?

for the fellas...

hey ladies!

Amplify!

I’m not sure a T-Shirt release party has ever existed before, probably because throughout all of time and all of t-shirts, never was there such a perfect forum and friendship to do so. I get that if YOU are reading this, then you, like myself are a friend and an extension of Jackson. So really, that was me & you running naked hand in hand into the ocean hours after we had met. How awesome. Thanks for that. And as a acknowledgement of your awesomeness, I am sharing my shirts with you, because I know you’ll LOVE them. We have decided to give away 1 of each of the new designs to the brave little bloggers who posted their response to the posed eco-pop-quiz: “Describe how you are living out Superforest”

The following SuperForesters have “won” the Un-Contest!:
Strum, roll, please!

Mickie Warden!
Allie Rhea Sheetz!
Jenni Rempel!

I will be contacting the winners shortly and we’ll figure out how to get your prize to you. (the shirts are just as, if not more, excited to meet YOU!)

I was so moved but reading all of the submissions. I realized afterwards that next time I initiate a contest I will NOT make myself the judge. Too hard! Thank you all who shared. You amaze and inspire me! I hope if you’ve never heard of Blend Apparel, you now think it’s awesome and can join me in creating a world of connective communication. These shirts are seeds of love. Wearable activism. They are the coffee table book of Tshirts. They make a fantastic gift to yourself, your family, friends, or your planet. Thank you for welcoming me and all of my designs with open arms.

The world means the world to me.

Helloha!

“Living SuperForest” Challenge Update!

Good evening, SuperForesters!

Last week, we asked you readers to describe to us how you were “living SuperForest” as a way to kickstart our partnership with a dapper gentleman who would pick three submissions to be featured on SuperForest and send the people who wrote an awesome gift. We told you we were hoping to do this earlier in the week, but, as it is very obvious this hasn’t happened yet. You’ll have to forgive us, we are still kind of new at this and all of the secrecy was meant to make the celebration of this joining of forces even more grand. Alas, life gets in the way (and in the case of this partner, it had more to do with an epic novel he’s written), and patience must be exercised, but we hope to make all formal announcements soon! Trust us, it will be so worth it.

As far as the contest goes, if you’ve submitted a response, you should’ve received a message from us by now. If you haven’t, please be sure to email us to let us know.

And as far as the fabulous new partner, here are a few clues to help you guess who this person is. We’ll call him SuperForester Y (SuperForester X was taken). The folks that are able to guess who this person is will win major bragging rights.

  1. SuperForester Y is an artist of love and compassion whose genuine kindness shines through all of his work.
  2. It’s highly likely you’ve seen (or own) some of his artwork/designs.
  3. He’s been featured on SuperForest several times.

Any guesses? I figured writing “he’s rad” and “we love him” would be too broad, and saying anything more specific would be way too easy.

Thanks again to everyone that participated in our challenge! Hang tight, we’re all working double time to get this going pronto.

Love,

Team SuperForest

SuperForest Challenge (Supercharged Edition): Describe How You Are Living SuperForest!

via flickr user linlaw39

Evening, Friends!

A couple days ago, I asked you all to describe SuperForest for us and the responses we received were wonderful. Much love goes out to SuperForesters Dog, Jenni, Maya, Marie-Eve, Edwardo, Dave, Kimber, and Hamzah for participating! Your answers were not only kind, but hugely inspiring, thank you! (And if you haven’t submitted a response yet, we’d still love to read them, so don’t hesitate to comment or send them over.)

Tonight, I’d like to challenge you readers by posing yet another question here on SuperForest. But this time, this particular challenge is special for it will mark the beginning of an amazing SuperForest collaboration that has been in the works for months. Your SuperForest challenge is coming from this new collaborator, a dear friend of ours, who, in commemoration of this partnership, has generously offered to award his latest works of art as exclusive prizes to a select number challenge winners (though, of course, all participants will be winners in our eyes). The details of the prizes (aside from the fact that they are awesome beyond belief) will remain a secret until the winners are announced later on this week. You’ll have to excuse our ambiguity, it’s all meant to build up toward the awesome reveal. For now, to recap, an amazing partnership/collaboration/marriage of ideas is on the way and as a way to kick this off, we humbly ask for your participation in this SuperForest challenge by answering a question.

Here it goes!

SuperForesters of the world…

You can take this question in whatever direction you see fit. Get as creative as you’d like. Our last SuperForest question challenged you to think of the larger picture as we asked you to define SuperForest. This time, we’d like for you to describe how SuperForest is reflected in your own personal life. This could be anything ranging from a random act of kindness to an inspiring project you’ve started. Bottom line, if there is anything you’ve done or have had done unto you, that is a prime example of living life in a manner that is SuperForesty, we want to hear about it.

Submit your answers (or any questions you might have) by emailing us at contact{at}superforest{dot}org. Responses will be collected until 12:00 AM PDT on Friday night (okay, technically that’s Saturday morning for those of us on the West Coast). Answers will be reviewed over the weekend and then 3 of your responses will be chosen and featured on SuperForest shortly after, along with the reveal of the newest SuperForest partner and the special prize he’ll be giving you.

Looking forward to your responses!

Yours in excitement,

Team SuperForest

SuperForest Challenge: Describe SuperForest to Us!

screen-shot-2010-03-12-at-70541-pm

Heyo, SuperForesters!

Yesterday, I shared with you my attempt at defining SuperForest. I also briefly described how difficult summarizing or describing SuperForest is for us. But time has proven that whenever we’re faced with a challenge, it’s always smart to go straight to the source of inspiration: You.

There have been several posts on this site in which we’ve tried to answer this question, but I don’t believe we’ve ever directly asked you. So now it’s your turn to take on this challenge.

Here is your question:

screen-shot-2010-03-12-at-64045-pm

Obviously, there is no right or wrong answer. In fact, every time I describe it to someone, I give a completely different response. And that’s the thing, I don’t think there ever will be a solid answer. But nevertheless, we’re really curious to read your thoughts. At this moment, how do you define SuperForest? How would you describe it to someone who’s never heard of it?

Similar to our fun “New Math” experiment from last year, we’d highly appreciate it if you could provide us with your answer directly in the comments section. Thank you!

Love, love, love!
