On Consumption and Consumerism

We all know that the current way of doing business is not doing anybody any good, except maybe the business executives high up in the corporate pyramid. Just how bad is it? Pretty bad, but that’s not to say that it’s irreversable. Armed with information and empowered with compassion, we can change the way the human world does business.

Check this out, it’s a short little presentation (once mentioned on SF more than a year ago) about the inherent problems (some of which were news to me), and more importantly, the solutions to these challenges (or should we call them opportunities?):

The good thing is we can stop the course of corporatism with the influence of the very thing that they live on: our loyalty. Research corporations and companies that share your values. Without our money, they will shrivel away and die. By investing our wealth in companies we believe in, companies and business that are local to us and want to work for us (hint: not Wal-Mart), we change the whole world.

Just a bit of food for thought.
