Hello, SuperForest!
The time was 2:09 PM on this beautiful Monday afternoon here in San Diego, the sun was shining, the wind outside was gusty, and I, rather than working on a research project assignment, was thinking about this coming weekend. On a Monday! Yes, I was already thinking about what was going to be doing! Now, in my defense, it is going to be my birthday weekend. But nevertheless, I was thinking to myself, “How many times a day do we remove ourselves from the present and place ourself in either the future or the past?”. The answer for most is probably a lot. 20 times? 50 times? Whatever the number, it is quite simply, too much. And after this brief reflection, I realized that this is probably because I spend such extended hours working on projects, reading massive amounts of texts, or working on writing assignments. In between these block hours of work, I spend my time scheduling out the rest of the day and what I need to get done.
Most people would agree that this sort of schedule is anything but healthy (even if you are a college student, it is still no excuse). So I thought I’d clear my head by taking a nice break. I left the computer, did some other things, and when I returned, saw that Yewknee had posted a link to a TED Talks presentation on “The Power of Time Off”. No way, this was too perfect of a coincidence to ignore. So I watched the entire 17 or so minutes and was absolutely dazzled!
It was time well spent. And totally worth it because now I feel ready to dive into that project.
Have a wonderful Monday!
-C
