Final Words from Arthur C. Clarke

“I have great faith in the power of optimism as a guiding principle, if only because it offers us the opportunity of creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I would like to see us overcome our tribal divisions and begin to think and act as though we were one family.

That would be real globalization.”

Indeed. Truer words we’ve yet to hear this Wednesday, March 19th, 2008.

Thank you for your kind words, Arthur C. Clarke.

(Update! SFNYC just found out something interesting. Seems that good ol’ Arthur C. holed up in a certain hotel in Manhattan to write the screenplay that would eventually become 2001. You know which hotel? I’ll give you a hint: Sid and Nancy)

People I Love: M.I.A.

What can one say about Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, that hasn’t already been said by the adoring hipster press?

The only Tamil/Brit/Sri Lankan Grime/Hip Hop/Graffitti artist I can name, this lady has stones bigger than most New York rappers.

Her songs are immensely listen-to-able, and each one has amazing lyrics on a wide variety of topics, like standing up to authority, working to help the downtrodden, and generally being aware and alive. Love her.
