SuperForest Meditations:The Waterfall

photo via blog.zehawk.in

Good Evening, SuperForest! I am going to start sharing some meditation and visualization exercises that really help me to relax, be calm and reflect on my life. I figure if they work for me, they might also work for you! Anyone who knows me “in real life” would think that because I’m such a chatty, high energy person, that I don’t like to be alone or silent. I actually thrive on quietude and calm energy. It restores and renews me for everything I do.

So, without further ado, I would like to share this meditation with you. I first heard it when I was about 9 years old in school and it has stayed with me ever since. I go through it silently in my mind, but some people prefer to speak the words out loud. You can rewrite it and change the words so they come more naturally to you, but this gives the general idea. I recommend lying down on your back to fully let this meditation exercise do its work.

The Waterfall

Imagine yourself in a forest. The air is fresh and everything around you is quiet.

Off in the distance you hear the sound of rushing water. After walking for a while, you come across a waterfall.

Go now and stand under that waterfall. Let the water flow down over your head and your entire body.

Now, imagine that the top of your head opens up to let the water inside. Feel your head as it becomes lighter and the water rushes through.

Now breathe deeply and feel the water rush down your face and neck and into your shoulders. Take deep breaths and feel how the water relaxes each part of your body as it travels further and further down.

The water is now flowing through your chest and back, down into your stomach and further down into your legs. With each breath, the water flows deeper and deeper down inside of you and eventually reaches your toes.

Feel your toes relax as the water flows through them. Take another deep breath. Now you should be fully relaxed, body and mind. Your spirit is renewed and you have been cleansed by the waterfall.

Yours in quietude,

SuperForester Heather
