Mr. Adam Marcus is a teacher at P.S. 32 in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. I recently came across a note he’d posted asking for second-hand items to decorate a school library space with.
I’ll let him explain:
“Hello.
I have a new position at my school (my 6th new position & 6th room change in my 9 years of teaching) that I am very excited about.
I am the school’s library media technology specialist. I am setting up the library/computer lab and am attempting to make it as cozy and welcoming as possible for the kids. I have been on Craig’s List and FreeCycle Brooklyn in an attempt to get the items that I need to create my vision for the space. I have already received 6 lamps (4 with shades) and small end/coffee tables all for free. I found 4 great chairs that were being thrown away. I have purchased a set of chairs, and will be picking up a living room chair and ottoman, and a few more coffee tables from Craig’s List.
I am trying to spend as little as possible and reuse what other people can part with. If you, or anyone you know, can be of help it would be greatly appreciated. I am in need of (the funkier the item the better):
Lamps
Lamp shades
Small table (end or coffee)
Throw rugs
Floor Pillows
Chairs
Extension cords
Power strips
Table runners
Place mats
Digital still cameras
Digital video cameras
Webcams
Mouses (or are they mice)
Computer microphones
Headphones
Planters
Planter bases
Pictures, Posters, Photographs
Your expertise (if you can share something with the kids in person or via Skype)
Your ideas (if you have any ideas about what would be good to do in the library/computer lab)Thanks in advance for your help.
With gratitude,
Adam”
If you live in the New York area and would like to donate anything on this list, drop good ol’ Adam an email at arm285@optonline.net
Adam, I hope this helps out!
