“A ruffled mind makes a restless pillow.” -Charlotte Bronte

Most of you may not have realized, but this past Saturday marked the 3rd annual International Pillow Fight Day. Yes, you heard me correctly… this was a day where people from around the world got together in public parks and squares, armed with nothing but ridiculous costumes, feather stuffed pillows and unabashed enthusiasm all in the name of smacking random strangers in the face with soft cushions of joy.
This is not your typical summer camp pillow fight. No. I’m talking thousands of people, in 150 cities, spread through word of mouth and internet sites like facebook and twitter. Millions of feathers. An infinite and endless supply of smiles. Don’t believe me? Check out the International Pillow Fight 2010 website for pictures from all the participating countries. Or watch the video below, from Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles, where I threw myself haphazardly in the mix in my best Braveheart impersonation (I promise to upload some personal pics later once I’ve loaded them off my camera).
Yes, it was as ridiculous, hilarious and awesome as it looks. I saw a man in full dinosaur suit get taken down by a roaming pack of pyjama ninjas. I saw little kids making “feather snow angels” in the fallen bed of feathers. I saw happiness and joy and not a sad face for miles.
My favorite quote of the day: ”Hey, I LOVE your shoes… ahhh I just smacked you in the face!”
I can honestly say, I can’t remember having that much fun with that many strangers. On a clear blue saturday in downtown LA. It just goes to show the power of reckless childish abandon. And laughter. And feathers.
WIN!
