Save Our Whales

SuperForesters have been active supporters of Ric O’Barry and his efforts to protect dolphins from commercial capture and slaughter. Now we ask you to extend the same love to our world’s whales. As our good friend Willem explains:

“We have killed millions of them and then they have killed none of us”

Now we can do something for whales.  TAKE ACTION.  Please sign the petition to President Obama to ban, not allow commercial whaling — HERE.  Or go to the Marine Mammal Conservation Through the Arts website: www.mmcta.org to learn more.

Much love!

Found Poetry Friday: Peace Poem

On the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month SuperForester Jordan “rediscovers” a literary gem from the vast treasure trove of an art form that, in our technological age, has become largely under-appreciated and “lost”.

In honor of Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize WIN today (see post below), I bring you this:

O SUN of real peace! O hastening light!
O free and extatic! O what I here, preparing, warble for!
O the sun of the world will ascend, dazzling, and take his height—and you too, O my
Ideal,
will surely ascend!
O so amazing and broad—up there resplendent, darting and burning!
O vision prophetic, stagger’d with weight of light! with pouring glories!
O lips of my soul, already becoming powerless!
O ample and grand Presidentiads! Now the war, the war is over!
New history! new heroes! I project you!
Visions of poets! only you really last! sweep on! sweep on!
O heights too swift and dizzy yet!
O purged and luminous! you threaten me more than I can stand!
(I must not venture—the ground under my feet menaces me—it will not support me:
O future too immense,)—O present, I return, while yet I may, to you.
-Walt Whitman

Obama = Peace!

I’m not sure if ya’ll have seen this yet.  But today our first African-American President won the Nobel Peace Prize! SAY WHAT!  I’d link to a news site, but it’s everywhere right now.  Give it a givoogle!

I woke up to the news from SuperForester Aaron and felt as though I’d been blindsided by sheer unexpected awesomeness.   Sure my first question was “Why?”  But then, the answer hit me in an instant.  HOPE!

To quote the Nobel Committee:  ”Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.”

In Obama’s own words: ”I am both surprised and deeply humbled.  I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments. But rather as an affirmation of American leadership. … I will accept this award as a call to action. . It ‘must be shared’ with everyone who strives for ‘justice and dignity’.”

So mega positivity win for the world today.  Who needs opinion polls when you’re winning Peace Prizes.

Epic Win: The EPA Declares Co2 a Pollutant!

picture-81

(Here’s our boy, Carbon Dioxide. Two oxygen atoms sandwiching a carbon atom.)

Good Morning SuperForest!

This Friday is a very special day, as today the EPA formally declared Co2 to be a pollutant, and thus subject to the same regulatory strictures that other pollutants fall under.

Epic win.

Says Lisa Jackson at the EPA:

“This finding confirms that greenhouse gas pollution is a serious problem now and for future generations. Fortunately, it follows President Obama’s call for a low-carbon economy and strong leadership in Congress on clean energy and climate legislation.”

Here’s the full story via the Times.

Obama, Springtime, new growth everywhere you look, and the term “recession-ista”, all of these things are making me really happy right now. That and thinking of the new buds that are poking out of the Obama’s White House victory garden.

Green growth, son! And the U.S. is where it’s happening!

Good news all around.

Love.
