Brooklyn Skillshare by After Ed TV

The lovely cats at After Ed TV made this delightful little video doc about Meg Wachter’s insanely successful Brooklyn Skillshare. The very same Brooklyn Skillshare where SuperForester Jackie and I taught upcycling glass bottles into cups and vases.

Skillshare ruled. I wonder if I can coax Meg out to the West Coast to throw one here? Psssssst, Meg!

Thanks to the swell folks at After Ed TV!

SuperForesters Jackson & Jackie Teach Upcycling @ Brooklyn Skillshare

Goooood Morning Lovely SuperForest!

I hope this finds everybody well this fine day, October 26th…
On the 10th of October, SuperForester Jackie and myself taught a class on upcycling for Meg Wachter’s amazing Brooklyn Skillshare.

Jackie and I showed an amazingly friendly (I hadn’t yet had any coffee) group of people how to safely and easily turn glass bottles into cup, bowls, and vases, lovingly handmade and gorgeous to the eyes.

I will post a video on how to do it in the comfort of your own home very soon.

SuperForester Mark was on hand and sent me these lovely photos:

The class went really well. At one point in time, I had everyone raise their hands and repeat: “I, state your name, understand that there is treasure everywhere. And I promise to find it.” Like sixty plus people all did it. It was grand.

Cheers to SuperForester Mark for sending in the photos, to Meg Wachter for throwing the event, and of course, to the incredible SuperForester Jackie for teaching the class with me.

People We Love: Meg Wachter

picture-6

Meg Wachter is a Brooklyn based photographer and friend of mine. (If you’ll recall she took the great photos of the 4fives trip to the High Line.)

Besides taking excellent pictures like the one above, she’s also heading up the Brooklyn Skillshare. Skillshare is just what is sounds like: people getting together to share their skills. Meg will be teaching kombucha making! October 10th!

Here’s the Brooklyn Skillshare blog.

Check out more of Meg’s work. She is awesome.

Beekeeping in NYC

SuperForester Meg just sent us a link to an amazing interactive piece in the NY Times about urban beekeeping, which is easy, fun, illegal, profitable, and sweet sweet stingy bee-sweet.

Here ’tis! – Urban Beekeeping via the NY Times!

And check out Jessica’s Ebelhar’s rad blog.

Cheers for the tip, Meg!

Jackson’s Journal (5/5/09) – Plants, Animals, & Train Rides

Hello, my lovely fellow SuperForesters!

Yesterday I went to lunch with my friend Kitra, who I hadn’t seen in a long time! Kitra has been working as a photographer/journalist all over the world, from the Gaza strip, to the Congo, to Polynesia, and so there was much to discuss.

We were sitting in a little cafe in Chelsea, and our food arrived: two crepes, hers with mushrooms and mine with ham and eggs. In the center of both crepes stood two proud sprigs of rosemary. Not just any rosemary, super excellent rosemary, freshly picked…

They were too good looking to leave behind! Both sprigs rested comfortably in my water glass throughout the meal (abominable manners, I know,) and then I wrapped them in damp napkin and brought them home, where with a little tinkering, two plastic cups, some potting soil, and two classy plastic champagne flutes, I constructed a wee little green house for each to encourage them to grow.

Like this:

Kitra and Jackson, (as I have named them,) are now resting comfortably in their bespoke biodomes, with lovely white light keeping photosynthesis happening while they (hopefully) send out new roots. Fingers crossed. I’ll keep you updated.

After lunch yesterday, I saw this great sticker which made me laugh and want to kiss the genius who thought it up. If it was you Shepherd Fairey, you’re beyond cool.

And speaking of animals, I was in Brooklyn on Sunday and discovered this incredible little scene:

I had gone out to Brooklyn to participate in an art project that my friend Meg Wachter was doing. She decided to take 24 portraits in 24 hours. I asked for and was given the Sunday 3PM slot, and if you head over to Meg’s lovely blog, you can see my slender self and SuperForester Baloo looking dashing and shirtless. Correction: I’m shirtless, Baloo is modestly still wearing his. (Warning! There is some light full-frontal male nudity, but nothing that Daddy doesn’t have.)

Finally, in my wanderings and wayfarings, I found myself on the R train coming from Brooklyn back into Manhattan.

Sometimes a subway ride can be pure magic:

Riding the R Train from SuperForest on Vimeo.

In the words of the immortal Bill Waterson: “There is treasure everywhere.”

If you wanna view paradise, simply look around and view it.
Anything you want to, do it.

Wanna change the world?
There’s nothing to it…

Much love to ALL!!!!

-Jackson
