Dreamers Of Dreams And An Awesome Book

Goooood Afternoon SuperForest

I’ve been thinking about dreaming today – both the sleep- and day- types – and its ability to shape your own life and also the grander narrative. In pootling around I saw this and it grabbed me:

you can read the full text of the poem here

Those two opening lines, with the alliteration and that rhythm that resonates and fills your mouth just right.  Almost like you’ve heard them before, or said them a long time ago… lo! you just might have:

Bringing together some of my favourite things: early 70s movies! Roald Dahl! Gene Wilder! – all tied up with a lyrical bow.

Thoughts of dreaming and the incomparable power of it lead me neatly to Dallas Clayton and his Awesome World Foundation and its Awesome Book.

read the entire Awesome Book of dreams here for it is rad.

The aim of the book is to “promote children’s literacy by encouraging kids to dream and dream often” and “the foundation’s goal is to donate one book for every copy of An Awesome Book sold.” Books are delivered directly to schools, hospitals, libraries, camps and shelters. Here’s Dallas to explain the process:

Dallas explains further in an interview with itsnicethat:

essentially I wrote a book for kids about dreaming – that when we sleep we dream of really crazy amazing fantastical concepts but often times when we are awake we dream of really mundane simple things like having our couch cushions match. I wanted to talk to kids about this, because they are all still in such a fantastical state as it is, and let them know that the dreams they have in their lives, their aspirations and hopes can be just as wild or far-reaching as they ones they have when they are sleeping

And when I am doubtful of that, I just look around our own delightful SuperForest, and the posts bursting with dreamers of dreams – from SuperForester Aaron’s Inspiration Information posts every Thursday to SuperForesters Jackson and Jesse making their permaculture narrative at Zero One to SuperForester Taylor literally being a music maker and, actually, far far too much more to try and catalogue here.

In gratitude and dreaming of rocket powered unicorns,
