Author Margaret Atwood has teamed up with a man named Matthew Gibson in inventing a device called the LongPen, which allows Ms. Atwood to sign autographs for fans remotely, using this amazing robotic autograph-bot. The company selling LongPen is called Unotchit, which is short for You No Touch It… Priceless, no?

LongPen is legally binding in the US and Canada.

Now, imagine attaching a LongPen-like device into one of these Japanese lady-bots:

Pop a Margaret Atwood face on her, a wig and a little makeup, and one of those talking devices from the Chuck E. Cheese Bear show, and blammy! Atwood-bot can be on the road signing autographs and even attending events 365 days a year, day and night! The real Miss Atwood can lounge in the comfort of her own home.

Could I conceivably copyright Atwood-bot out from under Margaret Atwood?
Wait… That’s a very interesting question…

If I made a robotic Dan Akroyd, could I hit the road with it, making it put on shows?
Do my First Amendment rights cover me making a living off of my line of celebrity reproducto-bots?

Technology is fun!
