Today is a day of magic in Poland! ( it happens every first weekend in January) It is very cold outside, lots of snow- that’s true… BUT inside our hearts are very hot:) as there is an amazing event called:
18 years ago an amazing man called JUREK OWSIAK (you can see him in the photo above) with a group of friends (Lidia Niedźwiedzka-Owsiak, Bohdan Maruszewski, Piotr Burczyński, Paweł Januszewicz, Walter Chełstowski, Beata Bethke) have decided to raise money for pediatric cardiac surgery Child Health Centre in Warsaw. It turned out to be a great success:)… and that’s how the story about making incredible things possible begins :)
The secret is in us, it is rooted in our nature, we must just allow it to speak, we must listen;)
After the first final Jurek Owsiak has set up a non profit organization called in Polish : ”Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy” ( The Great Orchiestra of Christmas Charity). The aim of this organization is to help people and children with serious health problems and to provide hospitals with the necessary medical equipment.
Today, we have XVIII final !!!It is so incredible and awesome, that somebody’s idea can change into a nation -wide movement !!!

In previous years the money were spent for:
This years the orchiestra collects money for children’s oncology (the same as previous year, as there is still not enough equipment like CAT scanners or neuronavigation devices)
The foundation has started three major nation- wide programs ( theses are medical and educational programmes):
- Universal Neonatal Hearing Screenings Program,
- Retinopathy of Prematurity Program,
- The Infant Flow Program,
- Personal Insulin Pumps in Diabetic Children Therapy Program.
Over 1 million of school children were taught the first aid
The foundation organizes one of Europe’s biggest open-air music festivals, which is called Przystanek Woodstock Festival :) You can listen a lot of good music there. You can also listen to wise and famous people from the world of media and politics ( it is a form of discussion pannels – a way of connecting generations)
The peace patrol (another great idea of Jurek Owsiak) are people who are medically trained in order to take care of those having fun during Woodstock festival.
Every person that supports the orchiestra is given a heart like this:
The snow is falling, but there is an ocean of hot and red hearts outside :). People are wearing it with pride on coats and jackets.
At 8. pm everything finishes with concerts called ” sending a light to heaven” :) Gosh, how much I love it:)
