Have you ever dreamed of having your own satellite? Imagine the boundless possibilities. Have your own very personal communications satellite. Never having to pay for internet, mobile phone bills! Wherever you are in the world you could have unlimited access to communication coverage! I was also thinking of a SuperForest Satellite with a projector strong enough to beam the SuperForest logo onto the surface of the moon.
The cost of such a satellite? $8000.
That’s right. For $8000 you can now launch your own satellite into space.
InterOrbital Systems (a.k.a IOS) is a company based out in the Mojave Desert in California. Not only do they build these satellites, they also build the rockets that launch them into space and all the components and software necessary to do that.
So what exactly does the $8000 get you? IOS will send you their kit/launch combo. Contained within this is the satellite that you build and modify yourself. You then send your satellite to IOS who launches it for you using their specially designed rocket called the NEPTUNE 30:
Currently the satellites are designed to conduct scientific experiments but with such leaps in bounds made in this field, I won’t be surprised to really see people launching satellites for their own specific use.
What would your personal satellite feature?
