Yoriyos!

A video to warm your winter chilled bones.

It’s called Pied Piper by Yoriyos and honestly, I don’t remember the chain of events that led me to find this video, but I am very glad I found it. Upon conducting some more research, I found his awesome website. Complete with a captivating bio, sample tracks of his album, and even some of his writings, I felt like a wide eyed child in a toy shop. How have I not heard of this guy?!

Here’s a link to his lovely website, take a look around, hope you find it as entrancing as I did. I’m off to the iTunes Music Store.

Gravel & Gold: Levon Helm, Musical Thrower Downer

Just found an amazing post on Gravel & Gold about the amazing Levon Helm.

Take it, Cass!

Levon Helm, Musical Thrower Downer

“Sev turned us on to Levon Helm’s album Dirt Farmer when we were up at Dovetail Farm, and those songs have been churning through my head ever since. Levon was the drummer for The Band, and in my opinion, the best voice in their crowd.

Since those days, he’s whipped up quite a reputation as the gracious host of The Midnight Ramble Sessions, a monthly musical throw down in the barn/studio at his place in Woodstock that has seen the likes of Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Levon’s daughter Amy Helm of Ollabelle, lots of stoked attendees, and many other marvels. This release, his first solo studio album in over twenty-five years, was well worth the wait. It came out late last year, and I’m not the only one who thinks it’s really, really good. It won a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album. And Nile loves it, too. What better credentials need you?”

Indeed!

Jason Mraz is Great

Jason Mraz is such a huge friend to SuperForest, we thought it only appropriate to put one of his many great videos up and tell you just how cool a guy he is.

Very early on in the life of SFNYC, we posted this:

Peace is Sexy

Hello all!

I think the anti-war movement is forgetting a very important marketing tool, namely, peace is sexy as hell.

Know why?

Because when things are peaceful, people have time to feel sexy, and to be sexy.

To love and be loved.
To find one another, to fall in love, to make babies, to raise them with love.
These wonderful things are very difficult when the people around you are fighting and dying.

As I walk around my hood in Brooklyn, I see fliers posted up for an anti-racism march.

I can’t help but think: “Why anti-racism?”

Why not pro-tolerance?
Why not pro-togetherness?

And why call it a march?
Why not just say: We’re having a party for peace.

You can’t scream in someones face to remind them how important peace is. But you can laugh, and sing, and be in love, and hear music, and check out your fellow man, who are there to check you out too.

Every “march” or “protest” I’ve ever been to has been like a big party.

You’re there to see everyone else and you’re there to have a good time. The last thing you’d want is for things to get violent.

If it’s peace you want, it’s peaceful you must be.

So as you go through your day, don’t forget to party for peace, love for peace, feel sexy for peace, laugh for peace, and pray for peace.

Love to all,

Jackson

Jason read the post and liked the image above, so he emailed us.
Not only was it one of the first emails SuperForest recieved, it was certainly the first time a genuine pop star emailed us. I was thrilled. We sent him a print of the above image and he was generous and kind enough to include SF on his site under his favorite links page.

The amount of people that have found SuperForest through Jason’s site is incredible.

We cannot say thank you to Jason enough. All we can do is post, post, post!

Thank you, Jason! You are an excellent friend of SF’s.

Hoping this finds you and your fans and friends well.

Yours,

Jackson & Team SuperForest

Bo Diddley 1928-2008

If they came much hipper and cooler than the Wild Cat himself, I don’t even want to know!

Bo Diddley @ the ol’ wikipedia

Nnnngh.

“On November 20, 1955, he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show only to infuriate the host. “I did two songs and he got mad,” Bo Diddley later recalled. “Ed Sullivan said that I was one of the first colored boys to ever double-cross him. Said that I wouldn’t last six months”. Bo Diddley was asked to sing Tennessee Ernie Ford’s hit “Sixteen Tons”, but when he appeared on stage, he sang “Bo Diddley.” He was banned from further appearances.”
