Happy Birthday, John Lennon!

Unless you’ve been alienated from all things cyber (or news)-related  for the past several days, you are probably well aware of the fact that on this day in history 70 years ago, a peace-loving fellow of the name of John Lennon was born. While he was never my “favorite” Beatle (this is a position held firmly by a quieter Beatle), his words, wit, and overall being have always been a tremendous source of inspiration for me and for this positivity blog. Truly.

So there I was, scouring YouTube in search of a song or video that I felt appropriate enough to share with you in honor and celebration of this incredible person. It’s a daunting task. And despite my several search attempts, I kept going back to a video that has resonated a lot with most people that read this blog. That video, of course, is I Met the Walrus. Now, we’ve shared this so many times, it seems redundant to do so again. I mean, it was even the inspiration for Jackson’s Peace Alphabet. But it had been months since I’d last seen it and as I was listening to Lennon speak, I noticed I still get chills every time I hear it. So I figured if I’m going to re-post something, his birthday is a good a time as any to remind ourselves of just how much of a positivity patron he was. Or even beyond that, it’s a beautiful example of just how intelligent he was…just how much he got it.

Happy Birthday, John. Thank you. For everything.

Hey SuperForesters!

As a kid, all I knew of John Lennon was his Beatles songs, his round spectacles and that he met a gal named Yoko who caused the successful band to disband (I now know better). And ever since I watched this, I’ve been fascinated with him and his efforts of creating an ad campaign for peace. He also loved to draw. Check out this portrait he did of his family (below). I find it very sweet the way he and Yoko are portrayed as having one body. the_lennons

John once said:

The simplest way of saying what Yoko is to me, and what I am to her, is that before we met, we were half a person, you know. There is no myth about people being half and the other half being in the sky or in heaven or something, or the other side of the universe, or the mirror image bit. But, er, we are two halves and together we are a whole.”

And a tweet from Yoko:

Oh, and finally, here’s a little push for those who have been putting off letting someone know how they feel.

Jerry Levitan: I Met the Walrus

Wow.

This youtube video soothed, inspired, enriched, and practically spit-shined my chi.
I feel like I could watch this once a day for the rest of my life.

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon’s every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon’s boundless wit, and timeless message.”
