Meet Ali Mckeown (aka Surfer Girl)

Hey SuperForesters!

Meet Ali Mckeown, a gal who spends her days in the ocean teaching others to surf. In my eyes, her job is nothing short of brilliant. On a good day, she even gets to frollick with dolphins. Ali was happy to share a few details of her surfin’ life with us.

SuperForest: What’s your job title and age?
Ali: Surf instructor, and I’m 19 (each and every year! LOL).

SF: What does a typical day involve for you?
Ali: My day begins at 7am at Mojosurf surf camp. As an instructor on the beach, my main objective is the safety of all the surfers, assisting the head coach and teaching the clients. In between lessons, I surf, enjoy the sun and hang out with everyone!

SF: What do you love most about your job?
Ali: My office is the beach. I get to work all day in a bikini, watch dolphins and whales play, as well as meet people from around the world. People are always looking for a memorable experience, so we try to deliver that.

SF: Do you have any particularly memorable experiences?
Ali: So many. One time, a male amputee came to stay with us for four days. He’d lost part of his leg in an accident and the resulting artificial limb was hindering his ability to stand on the surfboard. We assisted him in the water and soon enough, he was standing and riding the waves on his own. The look on his face was one I’ll never forget.

SF: How did you become a surf instructor?
Ali: I met a lady who asked me if I’d like to participate in some training to see if I liked it. I loved it! So I completed all the necessary certificates etc. That was four years ago and I haven’t looked back!”
