…And so are HUGS!!! Today my friends and I had a FREE HUGS afternoon in Portland. If you have never done an event like this, you really should! There is no better way to spend your afternoon than offering free hugs to ever stranger that passes you by – even those who don’t partake usually smile or laugh, and it’s impossible not to feel joyous and completed loved/loving after even just a few embraces.
I just wanted to share the photos I took, because they made me really happy : ) You can see them all on my Flickr page.
I am honoured and thrilled to part of this amazing, incredible Team! As SuperForester Jackson said I am Mathew! I go to school in Wallingford, CT for a few more months before I head west to Claremont, California! Today we have hugs :D
Hugging is one of the most wonderful things we can do in life. It is a hello, it is a sorry, it is an “I missed you,” it is an “I love you,” and it is everything in between. You know those days when all you want and crave for is a hug from somebody, anybody. Well more than likely there is someone around you that is feeling that way, or maybe it is yourself. Go give them (or yourself) a good ole hug, but here are a few guidelines:
Haha, absolutely ridiculous. I love that though. When it really comes to hugs it is about no hesitation. Just go in and embrace it (pun totally intended). But I recently learned not to hug going left, as the video stated! SuperForester Breanna tipped me off that we should always go to the right, or over the other person’s left shoulder, so that both of your hearts connect (so beautiful, thanks for that Breanna). The one and great Bushwalla gave her that piece of advice, and a great piece it is! Give it a try, it is fantastic. The connection you make with the other person is so much stronger.
In todays world there is a hesitation over human contact, schools tell children they cannot touch each other, people are afraid of what the other person might think, but if there is anything I have learned, thanks to the Free Hugs Campaign (which I am sure all of you know, but I will repost down below just because I love it so much), is that hugs are all about the sharing the love.
It doesn’t matter who it is, when it is, how it is, just share it all. It is one of the chances to put down all barriers and be human. Just like we have been talking about here on SuperForest put down the privacy barriers and give out a hug today. Open your arms and rap them around yourself, a friend, a tree, a stranger, or your teddy bear. And remember go right! Connect your hearts!
To steal from SuperForester Hana, SuperForest group hug!
As you may have heard, there’s like a kajillion SuperForesty things in the works, and as such I am a little busy processing everything (mentally as well as logistically). I’ve got SO many things up in my brain and heart, and I’m yearning to get them out. Soon, very soon, very very soon.
But for now, I’d just like to share with you something my friend SuperForester Jenny said after she flipped through the Peace Alphabet (which I myself flipped through a couple times, since it’s been awhile, and I was blown away once more. She said, and this is a direct quote: “I imagine if Superman and Captain America were real, they would approve of SuperForest.” That’s coming from an absolute fanatic when it comes to both of the aforementioned. She also mentioned her desire to give SuperForester Jackson a big hug.
It doesn’t matter who; it could be your mom, your dad, your best friend, a complete stranger (I dare you!). All that matters is that both parties enjoy it. Heck, it’s even good for your body. Scientists have proven that a warm embrace can lower blood pressure and increase levels of oxytocin in the bloodstream. Your brain spends so much time and energy making this “bonding” hormone, and you might as well make some use out of it!
A 2005 scientific study “reinforced research findings that support from a partner, in this case a hug from a loved one, can have beneficial effects on heart health,” adding “This growing body of research only goes to highlight how important social support is for everyone, not just those in a relationship.”
Amen. Back in the 60′s the motto was “Free Love”. In the 21st century it reads “Free Hugs“. Maybe the words are different, but the message is the same.
Remember that a hug a day keeps the doctor away,
Chris
