SF Song of the Week:

Every Sunday, Team SuperForest brings you a song to inspire, uplift, move and groove you through the rest of your week.

Holy smokes, with all the fantastic father’s day fun going on today, I almost forgot to post up the song of the week!  But here it is under the wire, in honor of Dad Day everywhere — Horace Silver’s jazz classic: “Song for My Father”.

The first video is a live recording (no lyrics) from the 1976 Umbria Jazz fest (which is in central Italy).

This second is a lovely photo show dedicated to dads, with the lyrics sung by the awesome Leon Thomas (wait till 1:35 when his voice goes wild).

If you’ve never heard this song before and it sounds familiar, that’s because the opening bass notes were used by Steely Dan in their hit “Ricki don’t lose that number”, and the opening horn riff by Stevie Wonder in “Don’t you worry ’bout a thing”.
And if that song wasn’t exciting enough, I’ll leave you with one more Father’s themed tune — A live 1972 performance of “Papa was a Rolling Stone”.

Even if you’re reading this on Monday, give your dad one more hug or kiss or high-five.  Because they deserve it.  Happy Father’s Day from Team SF!
