SuperForester Miin Presents: Burning Dan Flows Into the Beyond

Daniel Gordon-Levitt (1974-2010)

Sumptuous Superforesters!  You Embodiments of Love!

Superforest has highlighted that this world is full of inspiring people and by virtue of this amazing mind-mesh called the Internet, we can constantly be inspired by other beings that we have never met in person.

One such individual who has inspired me to live abundantly is Daniel Gordon-Levitt a.k.a. Burning Dan.

In a world where so many of us stay at our desks and push away our dreams, paralyzed by fear, expectation of ourselves and others and pressure from societal norms, Burning Dan was a bright, fiery, shining example of what happens when you throw caution to the wind and fearlessly experience life with Joy, Love and Passion.

A self- described “Flow Artist, photographer, swashbuckler, computer programmer, pyrophiliac, experientialist, didgeridooer and global citizen bent on saving the world with panache”, he wandered our glorious planet teaching Flow Arts with the amazing Tea Faerie, via their partnership, Flow Temple, sharing their unique version of poi-based fire spinning.  ON his adventures, he said “I endeavour to espouse and inspire enthusiastic novelty”, so he started a collaborative creative media network called hitrecord.org with his brother, Joseph, and regularly contributed to the annual Burning Man festival, sprinkling the poi love on all those in attendance.

This Flow Temple’s Mission Statement:

Our Practice is to hone our own Flow.
Our Commitment is to excellence.
Our Mission is to save the world.

Flow is what’s going right when you’re In the Zone.
Flow comes from losing yourself and doing something so completely that
you’re not thinking about it.
Flow comes from Now striking you as so compelling that everything else
fades away.
Flow is the guiding grace in charge when your ego and fear are not.
Flow toes the fine line between controlling your actions and obeying
your commands.

Some people sit in the snow in the Himalayas for years eating nothing but bark and beetles to improve their Flow. The lucky ones simply slip into the Flow naturally. Others train and train so as to more easily
find, focus and maintain their Flow.

We’re of the training variety. Of course, sometimes we fluke into our Flow. But since we derive such benefit from it, we intentionally foster Flow with our practice. There are schools of Flow by many names – ours aims at accessing and activating our Flow by dancing with Flow toys. We spin poi, we spin hoops, we spin batons, we spin staff, and much more. It’s about leveraging a focal point with flowing momentum.

It’s about focalizing, freeing and thus balancing the mind. Where will and physics intersect, we hone Flow.

We also Flow with meditation, yoga, chanting, music, tantra, breathing and many other techniques.  Others flow with tai chi, rapping, walking, whirling, knitting, surfing and more.  It’s an important distinction that NOT everyone who spins, meditates, chants, raps or knits is doing it in the Flow.

Wondering whether you’re in the Flow is like wondering if you’re The One or if you’re in love.  You know when you Flow.  And Flowing is half the battle.

Part of our training is service – our own practice is improved by teaching you.
We’ll show you the Flow we know.
We’ll grow from the Flow you show.

On October 4th, 2010, Burning Dan danced the invisible fire Flow from this dimension into the next, having blissfully spun through his 36 years here on Earth, fulfilling his mission to “inspire and be inspired in every interaction with everybody I meet.  Especially you.” We tend to fear Death and cower from its impending clutches, but I see death as part of life, as a natural Flow. Your time is your time, let us greet the transition with Grace and Peace, as I am sure Dan did.

In life, he was an example to countless people of the power of dong what you love, of feeling the Flow within and of believing that you are the creative power behind your own path, the “revelation that there are no Other Kinds of People” and that “everybody can do everything”.

In death, he has inspired us even more to live in the Now, with Love and Compassion, to spread happiness and laughter the way he so infectiously did, because we only have one chance to live this particular life, and who knows how much time we have to do so.  He reminds us that we must live “like the curtain is up and the enemy’s gate is down. We make awesome for ourselves and those around us.”

Think outside the box, find your Flow and choose to live free of fear, with no regrets and with Love for All.

We shall meet in another dimension, Oh Burning Dan, keep burning brightly wherever you are!

With Eternal Gratitude

-Miin
