Carla’s Journal (2/19/10): 4 Things SuperForest Has Taught Me to Keep in Mind When Things Get Hectic

Goood morning, SuperForest!

As of late, I’ve had to take a step away from regular posting to work on some term papers and research projects as my winter quarter is winding down. It happens every time classes are about to end: absolute chaos and stress. What has surprised me throughout these past few days is the overwhelming evidence on how SuperForest has affected my life and amidst the hubbub, I am noticing the effect particularly when it comes to handling stress.

Four things SuperForest has taught me to keep in mind when things start to get hectic. (They’re really obvious, but that’s only because they work.)

1. Breathe: It can’t be overstated, and I am lucky to have people around me constantly remind me of the importance of breath for as frustrated as I may be, it always works. Always.

2. Keep Your Friends Near: This one is really obvious, but the love and support provided by your friends and family (and even a happiness blog like SuperForest) creates a community that will empower and inspire you. And when things have you worried or stressed, this is exactly the kind of energy you need to make sure surrounds you.

3. Clean Your Workspace: SuperForest has always emphasized that in order to improve your environment, you start with yourself and the people and things you experience on a daily basis. This definitely applies in the study/work realm. Most of the time I’ve felt enveloped in chaos and pressure, I’ve noticed it’s heavily correlated to my physical surroundings. If I have a lot to do, and am constantly being distracted, it’s a safe bet that my desk or bedroom is an absolute mess. And 9 out of 10 times, as soon as I clean up and then get back to work, I’m focused and centered.

4. Be Grateful: No matter what’s going on in your life, be grateful for it. A huge exam coming up? Be grateful for it. A project deadline for work? Be grateful for it. And that goes for the good stuff, too! Throughout these past couple of days, I’ve been especially grateful for SuperForest. I feel that whenever I step away from the day-to-day activities and observe the larger picture of what has been accomplished here, I begin to realize how much I take SuperForest for granted, for what I learn from its brilliant pages daily are beyond words. It truly inspires me to no end. So thank you!

Much love to all. I hope you are having a wonderful day.
