Carla’s Journal (4/14/10): “Dear SuperForest Analytics Page…”

Good Day, Lovely SuperForest!

Late last night before getting to bed, I performed my normal routine of checking our analytics page. Here are the stats for the number of visits SuperForest has received for the past month:

Fascinating stuff. And as those of you that run your own blogs might know, it’s really (really) easy to obsess over the information the the analytics page provides you and spend countless hours trying to understand it. I know I have, and there was even a time when I noticed myself actually getting frustrated with the numbers! That was a major red flag so I promised myself I wouldn’t look at them, but alas, this was short lived for my curiousity got the best of me, and like any analytics addict, my guesswork continued (though after reanalyzing my blogging intentions, it was much less intense).

Despite the decrease in intensity, however, it seems as if I’m still suffering a bit of the side effects because during my late night information fix, the image above began to look a little more like this.

I chuckled at my own silliness after I created my enhanced photoshop version and decided to play along with it and write a letter to SuperForest’s analytics describing my complex love/hate relationship with it. The result of which is pasted below and is dedicated to anyone that, like myself, has ever been caught up in the analytics craziness. Because I’m suuuure you can relate.

You taunt me.

Tease me.

Smile at me as if to dare me to understand your mysterious ways.

And I, like an entranced moth to a flame, continue to fall prey to your temptation despite the fact that deep down I know the stinging truth: an eternity would never be enough to comprehend your complex beauty…

Google Analytics, none can compare. You are, by all means, the worthiest of all foes.

I love/hate you, always.

Yours in the everlasting search for understanding,
LOLve,
C

Little ol’ SuperForest got itself a quarter million hits last year! Not too shabby, considering that we don’t advertise. It’s all thanks to you lovely SuperForesters at home.

Thank you very much for reading this wonderful site.
