Good Morning SuperForest!
The sun is shining down in New York with a refreshing intensity. I know that winter still has a ways to go, but the signs that Spring is nearing are everywhere.
That said, I was reading through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (aka, the U.S. Stimulus Package,) and I am beyond pleased…
Here are some of the highlights, I just picked willy nilly:
$650 million for educational technology.
$300 million for increased teacher salaries.
$70 million for the education of homeless children.
$11 billion funding for an electric smart grid.
$6.3 billion for state and local governments to make investments in energy efficiency.
$6 billion for renewable energy power generation loans.
$5 billion for weatherizing modest-income homes.
$500 million for training of green-collar workers.
$2.5 billion for energy efficiency research.
$2 billion for car battery (traction) research.
$250 million to increase energy efficiency in low-income housing.
$6 billion for the cleanup of radioactive waste
$19 billion for health information technology.
$500 million for healthcare services on Indian reservations.
$100 million to help remove lead paint from public housing.
$19.9 billion for the Food Stamp Program.
$150 million to help refill food banks.
$100 million for meals programs for seniors, such as Meals on Wheels.
$100 million for free school lunch programs.
There’s more like this… Check out this one: $8 billion for high-speed rail projects.
All of these things sound utterly amazing. Thrilling beyond words. Ready for the icing on the cake?
Are you seriously ready? Serious icing coming up…
As a part of the Stimulus Bill’s implementation instructions, when each government agency now doles out this cash, it has to report it via an RSS feed!
Whaaaaaaa!!!!!
Transparency meet the US Government, US Government, this is transparency. Y’all play nice now, m’kay? Cause we’re all watching now.

Also!
Today, February 21st marks the 51st anniversary of the Peace Symbol. Designed in 1958 by Gerald Holtom, it is meant to symbolize the semaphore code for “N” and “D”, which stands for nuclear disarmament. Check out the wiki.
If you like the Peace Symbol, take a gander at the Peace Alphabet.
I’d like to extend a huge SuperForesty thanks to the US Government for passing ARRA 2009. And to the memory of Mr. Gerald Holtom, for his gift to the world.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.
-Jackson
