Called one of the best kept secrets in New York, NYU’s hospital on 34th and 1st Ave. contains a wonderful surprise, the Enid A. Haupt Glass Garden. Today, I learned that glass garden is another term for greenhouse. I thought at first it was a replica of a garden made entirely out of glass (cool!), but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a charming multi-room, plant and animal filled indoor tropical paradise. They have birds and plants and fish and turtles, and you can see the paw prints of frustrated cats on the glass above you. And it’s all tucked in to a very busy hospital in mid-town.
The 4Fives, Bee Ladd, Ms. Eva, Megan Driscoll, SuperForester Jackie, and myself all met there for a tour! Fun!
Let’s take a look:
First we met a nice turtle! Here you can see Nick Tolentino working the flip like a pro.
Then we met a nice rabbit! He had another name, but I’ll call him “Wiggles”
Here from left to right we’ve got Glenn, who is an adult and is not in the class, but he comes and hangs on field trips and is a cool guy. Then Jordan with the nice eye contact and a fist full of wabbit, Jon ZscoobyDoobs in the yellow, Adrian Lopez – (aka the Legend), Deven Lopez (the Rocking Machine), and I believe that is Ray (aka Ray-zzleberries) in the red.
Yay! Everyone loves the rabbit!
We’ve got Glenn with the apple, a tiny slice of Jonathan in the bottom-left corner, Emmanuel (Schlemmanuel) front and center, then Jordan with his face partially covered, Zscoobydoobs in the yellow, A.Lopez (the Conductor) in the center of the peace sign, That is definitely Ray (Ray the Red, Ray-zzleberry Finn) in the red shirt, and above him is The Lady Taliyah (aka El Justicio). Deven holds the sky safely up in place, and Ms. Eva is peeking out in the back.
Here we see my man Wiggles with the Amazing Megan Driscoll (aka Lady Drizzlestraps) and Jonathan (The Yeti Barber)
A. Lopez (El Conductor-Grosso) is in the back looking sneezy.
Ray-zzleberries and Travis (aka Mr. Travis Sir) displaying their wares. Tonight they will sell these plants to buy fine china for the bulls of Spain. Viva Espana! I joke. We all learned about plant anatomy today, and we all got to pot our own plants! Ray and Travis are holding “Terry” and “Zwigoff.” Ray is wearing Armani over a vintage concert tee, and Travis is wearing YSL Pour L’Enfant, with dashing hand tooled oxfords.
