Carla’s Journal 4/2/10: Feeding the Soul Reflections!

Heyo SuperForest!

After a long and beautiful afternoon with the lovely SuperForester Maya, I was reminded that we hadn’t posted anything on SuperForest describing how the “Feeding the Soul” event went! You’ll have to excuse my forgetfulness, I had thought about writing this post several times after it had just occurred, but as it is often the case, other things always seemed to get in the way. Nevertheless, this is no excuse. And I am grateful for the time to let that beautiful evening sink in.

So…Feeding the Soul.

Early in the morning of the sixth of March, we picked up SuperForester Chris from the now very familiar Solana Beach train station and headed home to finish all of the last minute preparations and to meet up with SuperForesters Susan and Nika before heading up to Oceanside. When we got there, we were joined by SuperForester Erik and right away we got to work.

The event revolved around two major parts, first the dinner among friends, family, and the participating artists, and second, the concert itself. From the get go, us six SuperForesters were active in helping with the setup and transitions of the event. There was a lot of chaos, but it ran very smoothly, and looking back on the event, one thing in particular stands out to me above all of the excellent food and wonderful performances.

The community.

We got to spend an evening with some absolutely wonderful folks and to capture this, SuperForesters Chris and Iman did a quick on-the-spot interviews in which they asked some of the attendees and artists a single question. Unfortunately, the lighting wasn’t all that ideal and SuperForester Chris had a hard time capturing the interviewee’s faces (he’s what I like to call a “polite interviewer” who is so concentrated on engaging with the people and making eye contact, that the camera almost becomes a hindrance :D ), but nevertheless, he did a fine job and the heartfelt and beautiful responses help give us a sense of just how wonderful this community really is.

A great big SuperForesty thank you goes out to…

SuperForester Scott
SuperForester Ciaran
SuperForester Maya;
SuperForester Paul;
SuperForester Jason (or rather, his silhouette);
SuperForester Rod; and
SuperForester Dan

for participating in our fun little exercise! And of course, a big thank you goes out to SuperForester Vallie and the entire love-filled Oceanside community for inviting us and so graciously welcoming us to this event. We had a wonderful time and it was an evening I’m sure I’ll keep with me for a long time.

In gratitude,

Carla

SuperForest Calendar: “Feeding the Soul” (3/6/10)

Feeding the Soul

Gooood Morning, SuperForest!

It is with extreme pleasure that I announce another exciting benefit concert happening here in San Diego. This time, it’s hosted by our friend SuperForester Vallie who a few months ago, asked SuperForest if we’d be interested in helping her out with a big event she was planning called “Feeding the Soul”. Knowing Vallie, I knew this event/project would be absolutely fabulous, so it didn’t take much thought on my part to give her a wholehearted, “Yes!” What surprised me was just how awe-inspiring her plans would be. As an attempt to raise money for Haiti Relief Fund and Brother Bennos Soup Kitchen in Oceanside, Vallie’s project has two main parts. First she plans on raising money by selling an awesome cookbook/CD that is based on the theme of food and how it strengthens the community. And second, as if that wasn’t awesome enough, as a way to kick off this project, she’s having a “Feeding the Soul” benefit concert on March 6th!

Last week, Vallie was kind enough to stop by and answer a few questions to tell us more about this event:

Amazing, no?

Several members of Team SuperForest will be attending this event and will be working hard to both share some of SuperForest with the attendees and some of the event with you brilliant SuperForesters here on the site. We’re still working out the details of what we are going to do there (sword swallowing? flame juggling? coal walks?) but of one thing I am fairly certain: This “Feeding the Soul” event is going to be a blast. A truly unforgettable evening with some of the lovliest people walking this planet. If you are interested and are going to be in the Southern California area, you definitely want to try and attend. We want to meet you!

Here are the details nicely laid out:
