I’ve been dog sitting little Nikko for a week now, and I’ll be honest — at the beginning, I wasn’t sure I would make it through 2 weeks! I’ve always been a huge dog-lover, but aside from my own former pooch Joy, I’ve only ever looked after big dogs, so I wasn’t prepared for little Nikko the spoiled crazy-dog!
After a week, however, Nikko has settled in quite nicely and takes up residency alongside my leg at night while I’m watching TV or reading. Have you ever noticed how much heat a dog radiates? It’s insane! But he does love to snuggle and nap.
On walks he is so alert and bouncy, and every passerby loves him. After walks he goes a little nuts playing and is known to playfully bite with his little teeth, but once I indulge his playtime for a while he gets tuckered out.
Taking care of Nikko has been a test of my patience, and a good window into what kind of parent I might be someday, so it’s been a great learning experience. It’s also been hilarious — he makes the cutest faces and cocks his head to the side when you sing to him. These days he’s been listening to a lot of Justin Nozuka.
