Gooood Morning SuperForest!
SuperForester Jesse was out at Zero One last week and we started talking about the wild chickens in the yard and how we’ve recently begun eating them. The conversation basically centered around the idea that to us killing and preparing your own food is crazy. I mean, who does that?
Then we thought about how crazy it was that so few people do that. So we fell into making a list of all the behaviors we are currently engaged in that were “crazy that they were crazy.”
Killing and plucking and eating wild chickens. It’s crazy that it’s crazy.
Using composting toilets and not putting our waste in fresh water. It’s crazy that it’s crazy.
Taking full responsibility for our trash by not making any. It’s crazy that it’s crazy.
Not focusing my life on making money or accumulating things. It’s crazy that it’s crazy.
This morning, I got an email from SuperForester Mathew that I think brilliantly sums up the crazy that we’re trying to out-crazy.
When I lived in California and New York I saw these signs everywhere. When we use cancer causing chemicals to build the very homes and structures that we inhabit, and then wonder why cancer rates are so high, is that not an interesting sign of a craziness so big that it has ceased to be crazy and is now simply known as “life”?
Well here’s to a life so crazy that it’s crazy.
The wild chickens are crowing.
