Oh, water beautiful morning!
I’ve just heard about Aveda Walk For Water – a charity fundraiser aiming to raise awareness and funding for clean water organisations. The event in Sydney is scheduled for Sunday April 18, and you can bet your buttons I have added it to my Google calendar. The walk will span 6km – the average distance many women in the developing world must travel to reach water^. Hard to fathom, isn’t it? Especially when all we need do is hop over to the nearest tap for an instant H2O hit.

If this sounds like a fantastic way to spend your Sunday morning, check to see if there’s a participating walk in your city at WalkForWater.com After a quick browse, I noticed there are plenty of cities listed (London, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Taipei, Sacramento, San Francisco and more). Don’t forget to bring your own water containers!
FYI Tap Project is another really strong clean water movement, run by UNICEF. The organisation is currently working with its partners to reduce the number of people without access to safe water and basic sanitation by 50% by 2015. Take a look at the site when you can. It’s a great way to self-educate on the issue so you can toss ideas around with friends.
