Even though it’s clearly about a breakup, the music itself, the voice and the stunning video are all big, amazing YES moments  in my music-listening life right now. NY Times: “Thousands Of Wind Turbines Coming To British Seas”!

picture-3(image via flickr user danishwindindustry)

In a very happy piece of news, the NY Times is reporting about the fleet of renewable energy producing wind turbines set to be installed off the coast of Britain.

Sayeth LANDON THOMAS Jr. and ROBERT P. WALZER in the Times:

The plan is intended to help Britain reduce carbon emissions and achieve its pledge of generating 15 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020. To meet that goal, 40 percent of electricity generation will have to come from renewable sources, mostly from offshore wind, which today supplies only 2 percent of the country’s electricity needs.

The government’s offshore wind plan entails building about 25 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity, up from 688 megawatts (less than one gigawatt) operating in Britain today, plus nearly twice that much already under construction.”

That’s magically delicious, Britain! Cheers, old chaps.

Britain from above

When I was in the Museum of Modern Art (New York) a few months ago I saw Design And The Elastic Mind. A really great exhibition. Anyway, one of the pieces that was shown there was a satellite image of the United States with a view of the planes that fly above it on a daily basis.

Well, something similar has been done to Britain. With the BBC documentary Britain From Above. Helped by technologies such as GPS a team of experts created stunning images like the one below (which shows airplanes that cruise the country).

For the non-British the content on the official site isn’t available. Good for us that techblog Gizmodo put up some of the BBC’s eyecandy. The images are really good; not to speak of the videos.
