SuperForest Calendar (1/19/11) : Free Donavon Frankenreiter and Seth Pettersen Benefit Show!

Good morning, SuperForest!

The Love Hope Strength Foundation is an international, music-centric cancer charity dedicated to saving lives “one concert at a time”. It uses its funds to do things like establish cancer awareness across the globe and build and support cancer centers across the globe. Needless to say, it’s a pretty incredible foundation and I was thrilled to see that our good friends Seth Pettersen and Trevor Beld would be playing in a benefit show for them along with Donavon Frankenreiter!

We’ve promoted a few other benefit concerts here on SuperForest in the past but this one really stands out to me for a simple reason: it’s cause is personal. Though highly unfortunate, we live in a day and age where I can safely say that cancer is something that has had an impact on our lives in one way or another. And to see people like Donavon and Seth and friends put out an effort to help this worthwhile cause not only fills me with hope, but extreme gratitude as well.

Here’s the facebook event page. If any of you SuperForesters can make it and would even like to cover the event for us by means of a guest post on SuperForest, definitely shoot us an email and we’ll make it happen!

Thanks in advance to any of you in the area who are able to make it! And a huge thank you goes out to everyone that made this benefit concert possible.

Love,
Carla

SuperForest Calendar: “Muse-ic” (5/8/10)

Good Morning, SuperForest!

After several long days and even longer nights spent studying for midterms (on cult films, urban sociology, and aging, no less!), and after taking back to back exams this morning and coming straight home to catch up on some much needed rest, it feels fabulous to be back.

I’ve got some some great things to share with you guys, and I’m almost done sorting my thoughts on the friendship gratitude project I mentioned to you last week (do you guys have any suggestions as to what we should call it?) and am ready to get started with that, but first, a special announcement!

SuperForesters Vallie, Mel, and the friends of the Feeding the Soul Foundation are putting together another fantastic event here in San Diego. This time, their “Muse-ic” event will feature performances of four beautiful women and the proceeds are going to sponsor a few astounding young ladies to attend the Rock and Roll Camp for Girls.

Not long ago, SuperForest attended the Feeding the Soul benefit concert, created by the same fabulous souls. The fabulous people, and pure concentration of love and compassion felt in that room was beyond words. If this is anything like that, which I’m sure it will be, I speak from the heart when I say this is worth attending if you are above the age of 21, and are in the Southern California region (and maybe even if you’re not) this Saturday.

Here are the event details:

“Muse-ic”
May 8, 2010
@ The Onyx Room (852 5th Avenue, San Diego)
with music from special guests..
.
Tristan Prettyman
MC Flow
Jessie Payo
Alysse Fischer

Tickets are $25 and any purchases or donations can be made, here!

So much love,

C

Carla’s Journal 4/2/10: Feeding the Soul Reflections!

Heyo SuperForest!

After a long and beautiful afternoon with the lovely SuperForester Maya, I was reminded that we hadn’t posted anything on SuperForest describing how the “Feeding the Soul” event went! You’ll have to excuse my forgetfulness, I had thought about writing this post several times after it had just occurred, but as it is often the case, other things always seemed to get in the way. Nevertheless, this is no excuse. And I am grateful for the time to let that beautiful evening sink in.

So…Feeding the Soul.

Early in the morning of the sixth of March, we picked up SuperForester Chris from the now very familiar Solana Beach train station and headed home to finish all of the last minute preparations and to meet up with SuperForesters Susan and Nika before heading up to Oceanside. When we got there, we were joined by SuperForester Erik and right away we got to work.

The event revolved around two major parts, first the dinner among friends, family, and the participating artists, and second, the concert itself. From the get go, us six SuperForesters were active in helping with the setup and transitions of the event. There was a lot of chaos, but it ran very smoothly, and looking back on the event, one thing in particular stands out to me above all of the excellent food and wonderful performances.

The community.

We got to spend an evening with some absolutely wonderful folks and to capture this, SuperForesters Chris and Iman did a quick on-the-spot interviews in which they asked some of the attendees and artists a single question. Unfortunately, the lighting wasn’t all that ideal and SuperForester Chris had a hard time capturing the interviewee’s faces (he’s what I like to call a “polite interviewer” who is so concentrated on engaging with the people and making eye contact, that the camera almost becomes a hindrance :D ), but nevertheless, he did a fine job and the heartfelt and beautiful responses help give us a sense of just how wonderful this community really is.

A great big SuperForesty thank you goes out to…

SuperForester Scott
SuperForester Ciaran
SuperForester Maya;
SuperForester Paul;
SuperForester Jason (or rather, his silhouette);
SuperForester Rod; and
SuperForester Dan

for participating in our fun little exercise! And of course, a big thank you goes out to SuperForester Vallie and the entire love-filled Oceanside community for inviting us and so graciously welcoming us to this event. We had a wonderful time and it was an evening I’m sure I’ll keep with me for a long time.

In gratitude,

Carla

SuperForest Calendar: “A LoVE Event” (2/28/10)

Good Morning SuperForest,

Within the next few months, we’ve got a lot of exciting SuperForesty events happening and among the first few are a pair of benefit concerts that have been organized by our dear friends, the utterly fabulous SuperForesters Mel and Vallie.

On February 28th is SuperForester Mel’s “A LoVE Event”, a benefit concert in San Diego whose proceeds would go toward both the Matt Wadleigh LoVE Foundation and Oxfam.

Here is SuperForester Mel’s own wonderful description of her project:

This event is truly magic for me. A year ago I said I wanted to do music event planning however, I created the story that I had to stay in the job I had. Strangely the job I had closed their doors and I was able to take these Self Expression and Leadership classes. They taught me to open my eyes and create something that made a difference to make a difference. YES! So when I was given the opportunity to create a project I decided to bring music, art, love and community together to make a difference. Seems only natural to support two foundations that do that daily! :)

Amazing. So to sum up, on Saturday, February 28th, amazing people and artists are going to get together in San Diego to celebrate love, friendship, and music, and you are invited. Ticket purchasing information and event details can be found here.

Much love goes out to Mel for putting this event together, the sheer inspiration and energy gained from simply talking to her about this event was something else, I can only imagine what the concert will be like.

Love,

C

P.S.  I know I only subtly mentioned it but details as to SuperForester Vallie’s benefit concert, “Feeding the Soul”, which is going down on March 6th, will be posted soon!
