Want to make an individual difference in the world, or… at the very least garner your cause national attention? Apparently it ain’t that hard.

All you need to do is get together 5 friends, 5 bikes, and 5 bright green shirts and then do something other people might find radical. Like biking around in freezing weather

(can’t embed this video, so follow the link to watch, it’s only 30 seconds):

“Cyclists Stop in Utica Promoting Climate Change”

That doesn’t look so bad. They hardly even seem cold. We could totally rock that!
What do you say, Team SuperForest polar bear swim the East River to promote well… polar bears as an endagered species? Pollution of our water systems? Anything? Jackson’s already got his speedos out. Who’s with him?

Masks are so very…

The NY Times has a very interesting article up about the first Olympic athletes to arrive in Beijing, and the sweet masks they wore to combat pollution.
Masks are so cool. Here’s an old SF article about the Techno Air Filter mask.
From the Times article:
“The masks they wore were specially designed by and issued to them by the United States Olympic Committee. The U.S.O.C.’s lead exercise physiologist, Randy Wilber, had advised U.S. Olympians to wear the masks on the plane and as soon as they stepped foot in Beijing.

Two of the cyclists wore the masks on the plane. The other two put on the masks when they arrived at the airport.

“This is really a surprise because I didn’t think it was going to be such a big deal,” said one of the cyclists, Mike Friedman. “Why we wore the masks is simple: pollution. When you train your whole life for something, dot all your I’s and cross all your T’s, why wouldn’t you be better safe than sorry?

“They have pollution in Los Angeles, and if the Olympics were in Los Angeles, we would probably wear these masks, too.”

Wild.

Beautiful Air Pollution Table!

Just saw this @ freshome.com

Never thought we’d find ourselves referring to air pollution as beautiful, (though it can make for some very pretty sunsets,) but feast your eyes on this little beauty!

“A Table Inspired by Pollution

The Robber Baron series by Studio Job is an important suite of five cast-bronze furnishings, consisting of a Cabinet, Mantel Clock, Table, Standing Lamp, and Jewel Safe, each to be offered in a limited edition of five commissioned by Murray Moss. From these five pieces the table that you can see in the pictures below got my attention. A patinated bronze “factory”, whose architecture is derived from interpretations of various early 20th century works, including the AEG factory of Peter Behrens and the Battersea Power Station in London. The four chimneys produce a “polluted cloud” of polished bronze, which becomes the open-work tabletop. All these pieces are inspired by ‘tales of power, corruption, art and industry’ all featuring strong gold and black elements. within the fist hour of the show, a set of pieces were sold to a private collector for 700,000 USD. I’m pretty sure that people who do their best to help the environment will have to say about this table.”

Bizarrely, incredibly, Studio Job has NO WEBSITE. At least, not one with anything to look at or functionality besides loading an email form. Cripes!

We want to look at more stuff! But can’t.

Here, see for yourselves: Studio Job’s “site”

Great table, though. We forgive you. But seriously, tech up.
