<description>Vancouver rally to mark 100 days of protest by Quebec students

(Protest Laws are even tougher in the USA but Student protests will spread to the USA very soon)

By Stephen Thomson, May 22, 2012

A rally is planned in Vancouver today (May 22) to mark 100 days of protest by postsecondary students in Quebec who are angered by tuition-fee hikes.

“For over three months now, students in Quebec have been on the streets, fighting for the right to education and now for the right to assemble and the right to free speech,” reads a message on the Vancouver event’s Facebook page.

As of this morning, 500 people had indicated on the Facebook page they planned to attend. Other demonstrations are expected today in Quebec and elsewhere across the country.

Organizers of the Vancouver rally say the student movement in Quebec should inspire discussion about how much students pay for education in Canada.

“The historical moment provided by the strike should be taken by all of us as an opportunity to refocus our activism towards permanently and substantially reducing the cost of education,” reads the message on the Facebook page.

The Vancouver rally organizers also criticized Bill 78, new Quebec legislation designed to clamp down on protest activity.

“Under this law, organizations and individuals who participate in unsanctioned demonstrations or urge others to do so will be subject to crippling fines. This is the latest in a series of assaults by the Quebecois government on the student movement.”

The rally takes place at the Vancouver Art Gallery at 4 p.m

<description>Ten Points Everyone Should Know About the Quebec Student Movement

&quot;&quot; The student strikes in Quebec, which began in February and have lasted for three months, involving roughly 175,000 students in the mostly French-speaking Canadian province, have been subjected to a massive provincial and national media propaganda campaign to demonize and dismiss the students and their struggle. The following is a list of ten points that everyone should know about the student movement in Quebec to help place their struggle in its proper global context.

1) The issue is debt, not tuition

2) Striking students in Quebec are setting an example for youth across the continent

3) The student strike was organized through democratic means and with democratic aims

4) This is not an exclusively Quebecois phenomenon

5) Government officials and the media have been openly calling for violence and “fascist” tactics to be used against the students

6) Excessive state violence has been used against the students

7) The government supports organized crime and opposes organized students

8) Canada’s elites punish the people and oppose the students

9) The student strike is being subjected to a massive and highly successful propaganda campaign to discredit, dismiss, and demonize the students

10) The student movement is part of a much larger emerging global movement of resistance against austerity, neoliberalism, and corrupt power.....

		<description>Gen X &amp; Y...Stand up and Whip Somebody&#039;s Ass

...Five Solutions to the Preposterous Cost of American College/University Education which is a $1 Trillion Bubble and growing...Larger than all Credit Card Debt!...

1.Kill federally funded student loan program entirely. Student loans do nothing but drive up the cost of education. Anyone can get a student loan because the loans are guaranteed and cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. The beneficiaries of this horrendous setup are teachers and administrators, not the kids receiving loans.
2.Kill state aid to colleges as well.
3.Increase competition by accrediting more online universities, even foreign universities. This will drive down costs immensely.
4.Public unions are a huge part of the reason for driving up teacher salaries, so collective bargaining (collective coercion actually), must end.
5.High school counselors and parents must educate kids that there simply are no realistic chances for those graduating with degrees in political science, history, English, art, and literally dozens of other useless or nearly-useless majors.

 http://news.investors.com/article/611887/201205171857/most-unemployed-are-college-grads-dropouts.htm

...For the first time in history, the number of jobless workers age 25 and up who have attended some college now exceeds the ranks of those who settled for a high school diploma or less.

...Out of 9 million unemployed in April, 4.7 million had gone to college or graduated and 4.3 million had not, seasonally adjusted Labor Department data show.
